Are these orange enough?

The leaf of Artocarpus camansi is so big that it can be used as a plate in the wilderness. It is in the same family of jackfruit and breadfruit so they have the same genus. Young fruits of this one we locally call 'camansi'  is used as a vegetable. The fallen leaf starts yellow and turns orange like the above. I love its color among the dry brown leaves on the ground.

This Ixora is always proud and vigorous under the hot sun. The orange color and its nectar attracts all forms of insects most specially the butterflies.

They don't need to go from one flower to another for the nectar, they just have to withdraw their proboscis from one flower within the cluster to the next flower. Before they leave they have accumulated a lot of nectar already. Their proboscis is designed for deeper flower throats.

  1. Lantana? Aren't these Ixora, known locally as 'santan'?

    1. Thanks for you and Blackdove above, this is actually 'santan' or Ixora. This is a spontaneous post while waiting for the call to a meeting, and when called didn't have the chance to re-read, haha!

  3. These are exceptionally good. Love the shallow depth of field, the vibrant colors as well as the compositions. Have a great weekend ahead!

  6. Amazing leaf. I love those flowers. I think they are the same as the flowers I saw butterflies on in St Lucia. They look very tropical.

  7. Very nice - that is an impressive leaf! My dog loves hiking and never seems to get too tired, even scrambling up mountains - we'll see how the new one does.

  8. I'm a big fan of warm, bright colors in the garden (although I like their opposites--purples and blues, too). That leaf is stunning, and I can see why butterflies are attracted to Ixora. Beautiful!

  11. I remember the camansi. We had a big tree in the back of our house, it was very prolific that we as kids were tired of eating it. We usually share the fruits to the neighbors. However, I don't remember - not once - seeing the leaf turn into orange. I have seen the green and then it went to brown.

Thanks for the smile at the fond memories of camansi.
